2022 VETERAN'S DAY AT MARTIN LUTHER KING SENIOR CENTER

We invite you to join the Juneteenth Nevada Veteran Affairs Planning Committee, the Martin Luther King Jr., Senior Center, City of North Las Vegas, City of Las Vegas, Clark County entities and community stakeholders, on November 11, 2022 from 11am 2pm for an historic Veteran Day Program. It will be held at the Martin Luther King Jr., Senior Center located at 2420 W. Martin Luther King Blvd., North Las Vegas, NV. We seek your support and sponsorship in this endeavor.

The National Juneteenth Observance Foundation Nevada/Juneteenth Nevada will collaborate with the Economic Opportunity Board of Clark County / Martin Luther King Jr., Senior Center, to present a no cost luncheon to women veterans recognizing their historical contributions to our nation on Veterans Day November 11, 2022.

The National Juneteenth Observance Foundation 25 year plus advocacy led to passage of the National Juneteenth Independence Holiday Day legislation in 2021. NJOF founder, Rev. Dr. Ronald V. Myers, Sr. M.D. (1956-2018) introduced Juneteenth to 43 states and the District of Columbia. Juneteenth Nevada is implementing an annual award honoring our military veterans..

The Economic Opportunity Board of Clark County is committed to introducing and implementing programs, resources and advocacy which lead to self-sufficiency and economic empowerment for low-income families. The goal for the Martin Luther King Jr., Senior Center is to adopt a female veteran organization, provide support for their organization and educate veterans of the available benefits and veteran service organizations. The Veterans’ Day luncheon will increase cultural and educational awareness of the women in our Armed Forces from 1876 to present day. The program will include an educational video presentation of the historical contributions of women in our Armed Forces. Juneteenth Nevada and EOB of Clark County will acknowledge fallen female warriors who participated in foreign and domestic wars or conflicts..

Today, female veterans compose 9.18% of the total veteran population, 5.16% of Nevada’s veterans, 20% of new recruits, and 14.5% of the 1.4 million active duty components. As the overall veteran population is projected to decrease, women veteran population is expected to continue to grow. Female veterans are also less likely to utilize veteran benefits and experience higher rates of poverty, homelessness and military trauma.
